“He who dwells in the secret place of the Most High shall abide under the shadow of the Almighty.” Psalm 91:1

Psalm 91 is one of my favorite scriptures. My Good Shepherd has led me to meditate on it throughout the years. It has been especially comforting to me in these very uncertain times. The word dwell means “taking up permanent residence.” The Lord reminds us to remain in His presence now and for all eternity! By doing so, we will dwell in the very shadow of the Almighty. Shadow by definition is a place of protection or covering and provides relief from direct heat of the sun. When the heat of the day is severe, the Shade is the place we find shelter. The secret place of the Most High God provides each of us with His comfort and peace in the midst of the intense heat we may experience in this world. The Jerusalem Bible puts it very well as follows, “ If you live in the shelter of Elyon [God Mist High] and make your home in the shadow of Shaddai, you can say to Yahweh: ‘My Refuge, My Fortress, My God in whom I trust!’”
