As my wife is learning in school now, the stress we feel (muscles clenching, sweating, etc.) is the result of our body’s response to a stressor.  For instance, traffic is a stressor, but it doesn’t result in stress unless the person allows it by his or her response.  One may get frustrated at the traffic, where another may view it as time to take in the beauty God created.  In Mark 6, we find examples of how Jesus responded to stressors.  The chapter begins with Jesus’ rejection in Nazareth.  Instead of having a pity party, He simply taught in the surrounding towns.  When Jesus heard about John the Baptist’s death, He prayed instead of breaking down, even though John was His cousin. The disciples thought they were going to rest after a long day, but Jesus told them to feed 5000 people with only five loaves and two fish.  Jesus didn’t stress out (although the disciples may have).  He simply prayed.  We are often faced with stressors and are tempted to respond poorly, but think of Jesus’ examples and His promise in 1 Pet 5:7…”cast your cares upon Him for He cares for you.”
