...“Ask! What shall I do for you before I am taken away from you?” Elisha said, “Please let a double portion of your spirit be upon me.” (2 Kings 2:9 NASB)
This was Elisha’s request of his mentor Elijah when succeeding him as Israel’s prophet – simple yet exceedingly profound. From the very beginning when Elijah passed his mantle onto Elisha while he plowed, Elisha understood the call of God, leaving the oxen and running after Elijah. After witnessing Elijah’s ascent in the whirlwind to heaven, Elisha took up the mantle of Elijah that fell from him and parted the waters of the Jordan River. Elisha went on to perform twice as many recorded miracles as Elijah. We the people of CCWO would do well to understand the need for God’s spiritual power beyond our own capabilities, to walk with God, to meet our responsibilities, to care for our families, to live victoriously as did Elisha when he succeeded Elijah.
