“But He needed to go through Samaria.” (John 4:4)
We all know the story of the woman at the well. Her life was forever changed because Jesus went against tradition and custom to seek her. The question I ask is, “Do we follow His example?” We call ourselves Christians, which by definition means “Followers of Christ,” but do we really follow Him? In this story, Jesus left for us the example of seeking out one in need. It wasn’t easy for Him to go to her; it required a trip out of the norm. So often we come to church, enjoy hearing the message and worshipping our Lord, but make little contact with others. Yes we say hello, shake hands and hug, but never really get to know those around us. We wouldn’t have to look far to find someone in need or hurting that we could lift up in prayer. How tragic it is if they can’t find help or compassion in the church. My challenge to you and myself is to “seek out” someone in need and be the hands and feet of Him who sent us.
